Our classes are designed to help children feel confident in the kitchen while learning how to cook healthy, balanced food. We focus on developing their choices and taste buds, and teaching core skills- from basic knife work and chopping, to making sauces and preparing simple, nutritious dishes from scratch.
The session you have enquired about is a taster class, lasting a hour and a half. The aim is to give children a fun, hands on introduction to cooking in a supportive environment. It allows them to experience what learning to cook is like, whilst building confidence and enthusiasm in the kitchen.
Following the taster session our cooking club is designed to develop these skills further over time. Children will learn about different meats, fish, and vegetarian dishes, how to make fresh pasta, baking and bread making, and how to make a range of healthy meals from scratch, but also thinking about the environment and sustainability. Through out there time here at Durley House we place a strong emphasis on reducing the emphasis on reducing reliance on processed foods and helping children become more willing and excited to cook fresh food themselves.
These classes are intended to be the start of a lifelong learning journey equipping children with practical skills and knowledge they can carry with them as they grow.
